Spelling Menu Information
Each day, your child may choose how they would like to complete their spelling homework.
Listed below is an explanation of each option on the Spelling Menu found inside their spelling book.
*Spelling words can be found in their Yellow Folder, or written in your child's planner*
Rainbow Words
Write the spelling words in a different color with crayons.
Fancy Words
Write the spelling words using fancy letters.
Ex. swirly letters, bubble letters, block letters, etc.
Hidden Words
Draw a picture. Hide your spelling words within the picture.
(Not so hidden that I can't see them when I check your homework)
Waterfall Words
Write just the first letter of the word. On the next line, write the first two letters of the word. On the line after that, write the first three letters of the word. Continue this pattern until the entire word has been spelled.
Example:

Word Sort
Create a T chart. Sort the words based on the categories given in class.
Example: Categories "short a" and "short i"
Short A Words Short I Words
hat hit
pat pit
sat sit
5 Sentences
Choose 5 spelling words from the list. Write a sentence with each word.
Be sure to start each sentence with an uppercase letter and end each sentence with a punctuation mark.
Practice Test
Ask a family member or a friend to read your spelling words out loud one at a time.
Practice writing each word to prepare for the spelling test tomorrow.
Three Times Each
Write each of the spelling words three times in a row.
